DENVER—A Colorado-based insurance marketing company has filed a lawsuit in Denver federal court against NBC Universal Inc. and General Electric Co. over an April 2008 edition of the newsmagazine “Dateline.”

Brokers’ Choice of America Inc. of Centennial, Colo., and its owner, Tyrone M. Clark, filed suit Monday against the network, its owner, “Dateline” correspondent Chris Hansen and producers Steven Eckert and Marie Amorebieta.

The suit claims the defendants used false credentials to gain access to an educational seminar at which Clark was speaking, secretly recorded him, then “selectively edited” and aired his words in a “false and defamatory context.”

The suit seeks more than $100 million.

Messages left for NBC Universal and GE weren’t immediately returned.
