DENVER—Colorado is getting $461,000 to help educate people about their Medicare benefits.
Funding for the State Health Insurance Assistance Program, or SHIP, historically has been used for the Hispanic community, people with low literacy, and residents in rural areas.
Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services acting Administrator Charlene Frizzera says the funding will ensure local governments and groups can meet the needs of Medicare beneficiaries and educate them about their health care choices.
The health care counseling is usually done in person, at homes, and at events around the state.
Colorado’s grant is part of $35.8 million being distributed to 54 SHIPs nationwide.
