New York Gov. David Paterson’s job approval plunged to the lowest for any chief executive of the state, and 63 percent of voters said he doesn’t deserve a full four-year term, a poll by Quinnipiac University found.

Paterson’s performance was viewed favorably by 28 percent of voters in the survey released Monday, the lowest since he took office a year ago. The rating is down from a peak of 64 percent in August. Sixty percent disapproved of his handling of the governor’s job, up from 14 percent in August.

Paterson, a Democrat, became governor in March 2008 after Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution scandal.
