Denver police pursued a fugitive through Lakewood streets Monday afternoon before forcing him to crash on the lawn of a Lakewood home.
Fugitive David Stewart fled a home in Denver when officers, following on a tip, came there to apprehend him.
Stewart, who has a lengthy criminal record that includes drug and forgery violations, left the home in a black truck, said Sonny Jackson, a spokesman for the Denver Police Department.
Stewart then stopped at an auto shop and switched vehicles. He left the shop driving a sport-utility vehicle, and eventually tried to ram a patrol car. An officer suffered minor injuries for an officer.
Police continued to pursue him and a passenger on Upham Street near West 14th Avenue. Police succeeded in using two SWAT vehicles to force Stewart to crash.
Stewart was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life threatening, Jackson said. The passenger also was arrested.
Jackson said police are still searching for another man, Jesse Garis, who is believed to have helped by taking control of Stewart’s first getaway vehicle.
