GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Mesa County district judge has set trial for Sept. 21 for a former Grand Junction High School administrator accused of using the Internet to try to lure a minor into having sex.
Judge Thomas Deister granted a defense motion Thursday for a continuation in the case of Donald John “Johnnie” Walker.
Defense attorney Colleen Scissors said during a motions hearing that the planned use of an expert witness who’s been fired from his job and is facing federal allegations could put Walker at a disadvantage during trial.
Walker’s trial had been scheduled for April 28.
Prosecutors say Walker tried to lure someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl.
The person he allegedly conversed with was Jason Steitle of San Antonio, Texas, who reported Walker to police.
