Getting your player ready...

Of all the things that pushed manager Clint Hurdle’s negative buttons Saturday, Seth Smith’s failure to put down a sacrifice bunt in the seventh was the worst. With two on and no outs, Smith popped out to third baseman Blake DeWitt. Todd Helton then lined out into a double play to end a potential rally. “The most disappointing thing for me today was the fact that we didn’t get a bunt down in a two-run ballgame,” Hurdle said. “We bunted as much as anybody in spring training. That’s a staple and we didn’t get it done.”

Kid stuff.

While most Rockies are struggling, youngsters Ian Stewart and Dexter Fowler are thriving. Stewart was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer. He’s hitting .389. Fowler entered the game as a pinch hitter and went 2-for-3, boosting his average to .308.

One-two punch.

The Dodgers’ Manny Ramirez and Andre Ethier each hit two homers, becoming the first Dodger duo to accomplish that since Adrian Beltre and Shawn Green did it on Aug. 19, 2004.
