GRAND JUNCTION — A 56-year-old great-grandmother who works two jobs to support her family was picked as the buyer of a $1 car refurbished by Grand Junction businessmen.
Cruz Herrera’s co-workers said she deserves the car because she never complains about her many responsibilities and has let homeless people sleep in her home when it’s cold outside.
“She works harder and longer than a great-grandmother should have to,” read the letter from Herrera’s co-workers at a Grand Junction mortgage company where she is an administrative assistant.
Herrera also delivers pizzas in the evening.
Integrity Auto Repair owner Blake Brueggeman last month asked people to send letters recommending who deserved the 1992 Ford Crown Victoria that he and other businessmen spruced up.
Brueggeman had said the ideal candidate would be someone who worked hard and “just needs a little break to come their way.”
