The winner: Keith Giezentanner, Glenwood Springs: This pole was dedicated on Aug. 24, 1985, to celebrate Glenwood Springs’ 100-year anniversary. The portion of the pole shown is a rendering of the infamous Doc Holliday, who died here on Nov. 8, 1887. He came to Glenwood Springs in an unsuccessful attempt to cure his poor health in the famous Yampah Hot Springs. He spent his last 57 days in bed at the Hotel Colorado. He is buried in Linwood Cemetery overlooking the town, but there is debate about which grave he actually occupies.
