Hall and Oates rapidly gained credibility in the early part of this decade after years of dismissal from critics. The verdict? These soft-rock fools write some undeniably catchy songs. See the duo play a rare show at the Paramount Theatre on Aug. 30. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($49.50-$69.50, TicketHorse)

The Colorado State Fair returns with another year of rodeo, monster trucks, carnival rides and, of course, sweet state fair music. This year you can catch Foreigner, Darius Rucker, Rodney Atkins and others at the Aug. 28-Sept. 6 event in Pueblo. Tickets are on sale Saturday. ($7-$70, Ticketmaster)

Green Day announced its summer tour earlier this week, including an Aug. 15 stop at the Pepsi Center. Check back here and for on-sale dates and prices.

Yes plans to bolster its headlining set at the Paramount on July 12 with opener Asia — a band that took the ’70s prog-rock sound and injected it with smooth, soaring pop. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($49.50-$95, TicketHorse)

Sonic Youth seems an increasingly hilarious name for this group of gray-hairs torturing their guitars in front of an equally aging fan base. But if you’ve ever seen these post-punk heroes live, you’ll agree it’s apt. If the Stones and the Dead can do it, why not a band that’s never released a bad album? Tickets for the band’s July 31 Ogden Theatre show are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($25.50, Ticketmaster)

“1964,” the popular, long-running Beatles tribute, will return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Aug. 22 to benefit KBDI-TV 12. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($25, Ticketmaster)

The Avett Brothers have nailed that aching lilt so integral to Americana, threading gorgeous vocal melodies through banjo, acoustic guitar and other instruments that mingle as naturally as rain and sunlight. The act will play free shows on Aug. 19 in Telluride and Aug. 20 in Steamboat Springs. Tickets for their Aug. 21 Boulder Theater and Aug. 22 Ogden Theatre shows are on sale at 10 a.m. today. ($27.25- $29.50, Ticketmaster)

Buckethead fans know well the pleasures of this — you guessed it — long-haired dude with a fried-chicken bucket on his head. The prolific guitarist shreds his way through another maze of insanely technical rock when he plays the Gothic Theatre on Aug. 27. Passes are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($22-$25, Ticketmaster)

Creed plans to make an Oct. 3 stop at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre as part of its hefty reunion tour. And lest you scoff at this admittedly terrible idea, consider that Ticketmaster is listing its openers as Slipknot, Disturbed, Dragonforce, Mastodon, Five Finger Death Punch, Machine Head and Walls of Jericho — bands that have more credibility in one bloody finger than Creed had in its entire career. Check back here and at for updates and on-sale dates. ($24-$125, Ticketmaster)
