LONGMONT, Colo.—Longmont police say a 2-year-old girl escaped serious injury when she fell out of a car and into the street.

It happened Wednesday evening.

Officer Jim Brown says the girl was in a car seat, but it wasn’t securely fastened.

He says the mother was driving south on Main Street at about 20 mph when she turned right onto Boston Avenue. At that point, the car door came open, and the toddler fell out.

Brown says the child suffered only a few scrapes and cuts. He noted it was lucky “no one was following close behind and that the child wasn’t hurt worse.”

Police cited the mother with failing to properly use a car seat. Her name wasn’t released.
