WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The LPGA Tour has seen its schedule shrink, and keeping the sagging economy from digging deeper into its future prompted a mandatory meeting in Virginia.
The tour wrapped up its second LPGA Tour Summit with more than 100 players on hand Saturday at the Kingsmill Resort, the site of next weekend’s Michelob Ultra Open.
The meeting was part business and part pep rally, tour star Cristie Kerr said, and was called to stress to players their responsibility in drawing corporate sponsors and building their fan base.
Only seven tour events have been played this year, two in February and April and three in March.
