May 15 marks the start of the EddyFlower Vertical Challenge, a continent-wide contest for paddling teams of all skill levels to see how much time on the river they can log in a month. This year’s contest will help raise funds for First Descents, the Colorado-based charity that puts young adults with cancer in kayaks. Last year’s contest had 48 teams with 200 paddlers bouncing down 1.42 million vertical feet of whitewater, raising more than $28,000 for First Descents.
