DENVER—Cherry Creek wrapped up its 13th straight team title Friday in the 5A state girls tennis championship at the Gates Tennis Center.

Ponderosa entered Friday’s semifinal round just one point behind the Bruins. But by the end of the day, Cherry Creek had racked up 62 points and qualified its six remaining players—singles and doubles—into Saturday’s championship round.

Ponderosa finished the day with 42 points after the playback round, but can only score a maximum of 11 Saturday. Chatfield sits third with 35 points.

Cherry Creek’s Caroline Schnell scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ponderosa’s Erin Sanders in a matchup of the last two No. 1 singles state champions.

Schnell advances to Saturday’s final against Poudre junior Natalie Dunn, who beat Cherokee Trail’s Jacqueline Palmucci 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the other semifinal. Her win sets up a rematch of last year’s state semifinal, won by Schnell.
