A dog who was found in pain, taped to a refrigerator in Boulder, is starting a new life with a new family and a contest is underway to give him a new name.
Rex, a 10-month-old, 12-pound shiba inu, was found by police last month bound in a “tomb of tape,” a victim in a domestic dispute between a couple. A plastic bag and elastic hair ties were also used to bind the dog, police said.
Abby Toll, 20, was arrested on suspicion of felony animal cruelty.
Rex was released to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, which found a foster family for Rex.
Now, Shannon and Amy Park, who own two other shiba inus, are formally adopting Rex. They, along with the society, are having a contest to re-name the formerly mistreated canine.
The name will reflect the dog’s Japanese heritage. Participants can choose from the five following suggestions:
YOSHI (Good luck)
KICHIRO (Lucky Son)
TOSHI (Bright, intelligent)
SABURO (Third son)
KAZUKI (Harmonious hope)
To cast a vote go to . A suggested donation of $5 to cast a vote will support other animals in the society’s care.
Lisa Pedersen, CEO of the society, said in a media release: “They came up with this wonderful naming contest idea, which not only represents Rex’s new beginning, it also will provide donations for other animals in need.”
