COLORADO SPRINGS — You’re supposed to be at least 16 to drive a car in Colorado, but age didn’t stop Maria Martinez’s grandson from getting behind the wheel of her car.
Monday afternoon, a woman in Colorado Springs lost control and hit a power pole. Maria Martinez saw that accident and stopped to help.
She got out of her car, leaving it running with her 2-year-old grandson inside.
Her grandson unbuckled his seat belt, got in the driver’s seat, and put the car in drive.
The car went right into a street sign.
He wasn’t hurt.
“I’m gonna have to keep this in his memory and let him remember as he grows up: You drove the car one time, you’re not driving again until you’re 18,” Martinez said.
No one was injured in either incident.
Police did ticket the woman in the first car for careless driving.
