LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Alec Pott of Poudre High School won the discus at the Class 5A state track and field championships on Thursday.

Pott threw the discus 147 feet, 1 inch. Loveland’s Lane Stuht was second with a 143-foot, 4-inch toss.

Defending champion Arapahoe led the team competition with 21 points. Smoky Hill was second with 20 points after four events.

Evan Appel of Dakota Ridge won the 3,200 meters event, running in a time of 9:18.40 minutes. Cherry Creek’s Walter Schafer was second in a time of 9:26.57.

The pole vault was won by Smoky Hill’s Chase Cooper. Cooper cleared the bar at 17 feet.

Chaparral claimed the 3,200-meter relay event in 7:53.72.

Littleton had a 26-21 lead over Rocky Mountain in the girls competition. Highlands Ranch was third at 21.

Jenna Adams of Littleton won the pole vault with a vault of 11 feet, 6 inches. She was 6 inches higher than the second place finisher, Rocky Mountain’s Valentina Pauna.

In the 3,200 meters, Boulder’s Kelsey Lakowske finished first with a time of 10:49.18. Lakowske edged Eleanor Fulton of Highlands Ranch, 10:49.27.

Rocky Mountain won the 3,200-meter relay in 9:20.58 minutes. Highlands Ranch was second.

Overland’s Brittney Lewis won the long jump with an 18-foot leap. Littleton’s Brooke Jackson claimed the discus with a throw of 134 feet, 6 inches.
