AURORA, Colo.—The Aurora Public Schools budget may top $400 million for the first time.

The school board on Tuesday gave preliminary approval to a $444 million budget, $62 million larger than that the previous year.

A series of public meetings is planned before the board votes on June 16 whether to formally approve the budget.

The district in the east Denver suburbs has 35,000 students and 54 schools.
