Colorado’s two newest senators will be sworn into office Friday after co-hosting a reception earlier that morning.
Denver Democrats Pat Steadman and Michael Johnston will take the oath of office together in the Senate chambers at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
They will host a reception from 9 to 10 a.m. on the fourth floor of the Colorado Education Association across the street from the Capitol.
Johnston succeeds Senate President Peter Groff, who resigned his seat to take an education post with President Barack Obama’s administration.
Steadman holds the seat held by Democrat Jennifer Veiga, who resigned to move to Australia.
Johnston and Steadman were chosen by vacancy committees in their respective Senate districts.
Democrats will still hold a 21-14 majority in the Senate.
