National Western Stock Show managers have talked with the Schuck Corp. about moving the livestock show and rodeo to Schuck’s proposed racetrack and entertainment complex in Aurora.
But no agreements have been made, and the National Western is eyeing several options, stock show executive director Pat Grant said Wednesday.
Grant said that he and members of the stock show’s executive committee met with Colorado Springs-based developer Schuck three times in the past two years to discuss the project and the National Western’s desire to relocate or rebuild.
The stock show also has had ongoing discussions with Daytona Beach, Fla.- based International Speedway Corp. about plans for a metro-Denver complex that would combine NASCAR racing and National Western events.
Grant said stock show officials were “intrigued” by the idea of a shared facility that would focus on car races in the summer and livestock events in the winter.
The National Western said last year that soaring maintenance costs at its 103-year-old complex in north Denver make it imperative to relocate or rebuild.
Some estimates have pegged the costs of a combined racetrack and stock show complex at as much as $800 million.
Grant has declined to comment on costs.
