Customers were left with incomplete installations and inoperable heating and air conditioning systems when Climatech Heating and Air Conditioning closed without warning.
The Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau reports 87 complaints in the month of May alone.
One of those complaints came from Su Dierbeck of Highlands Ranch.
“I don’t want other people to run into the same thing I ran into. I learned a lesson,” said Dierbeck. “I want other people to hear my story.”
Dierbeck called Climatech Heating and Air Conditioning, which had a facility on Jason Street in Denver, to clean her furnace.
The smooth-talking technician convinced her she needed a new furnace, said Dierbeck.
“I didn’t know what else to do,” Dierbeck said.
She is now convinced she didn’t need that furnace and blames herself for not doing more research.
Climatech promised to return in the spring to reconnect her AC system, but they were out of business by the time she called, said Dierbeck.
The BBB suggests customers check a business’ background and get three written bids before any large job to avoid disreputable contractors.
“There are hungry contractors out there willing to come out on a moment’s notice to give you a bid and you can get multiple bids very quickly,” said BBB president Dave Mingilton. “Have them write up exactly what you’re doing so when you go for that comparison you can compare apples to apples.”
Climatech’s owner, Andy Swan of Fort Collins, did not respond to requests for comment.
