GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Grand Junction man has died of injuries sustained when he jumped off the roof of a bike shop last week.

The Mesa County coroner’s office said Wednesday that 23-year-old Christopher J. Eastman died from massive head injuries suffered in the May 27 incident. The death was ruled an accident.

Police have said Eastman may have been jumping from the roof of Ruby Canyon Cycles to grab onto a tree while attempting to evade officers. It wasn’t immediately clear why officers might have been pursuing him.

Eastman missed the tree and plunged to the ground.

Authorities are investigating why Eastman was on the roof.
