A man displaying “bizarre behavior” and throwing rocks at a townhome window early this morning was shot by a sheriff’s deputy after a struggle in which the suspect seized a Taser.
The incident happen at about 4 a.m. in the 800 block of Cherryvale Road, according to a release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff identified the man as Cosmo Daniel Moshe Grill, an Israeli citizen who moved to Boulder recently from New York City.
The deputy who shot Grill is 31-year-old Lanie Delong, who has served with the Sheriff’s Office for four years.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the scene on a report of a disturbance. When they arrived, they tried to take Grill into custody, but he became combative. “A struggle ensued, and Mr. Grill was Tased,” the release said.
Grill grabbed the Taser from one of the deputies and pointed it at them.
“Deputy Delong fired one shot, striking the suspect in the lower abdomen,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Grill then tried to flee but was caught and taken to Avista Hospital, where he is being treated for a wound that is not life-threatening, the Sheriff’s Office said.
