DURANGO, Colo.—Fort Lewis College in Durango will hike tuition 9 percent next year to compensate for state budget cuts.
The college’s Board of Trustees agreed to the tuition hike Friday. It takes effect next school year.
In-state tuition will go up 9 percent, to $3,102 a year. Nonresident tuition is going up 6 percent, to $16,072.
College administrators say the hikes are necessary to make up for flat funding in the state budget. They point out that the increased tuition is still among the lowest in the state.
Also, trustees approved a new collaborative degree program with the University of Denver. The program will allow students to complete a master’s degree in social work from DU in five years while remaining in Durango.
