A Colorado Wildlife Habitat Stamp no longer is required to enter state wildlife areas.

Persons buying hunting or fishing licenses still are required to purchase a stamp, but the stamp need not be exhibited for entry into SWAs.

Recently approved state legislation affected a change in the Colorado Wildlife Habitat Protection Program.

Big money for birds.

Duayne Madl, 59, of Lake Quivira, Kan., has made a $1 million pledge to Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, affirming his belief in wildlife habitat conservation and the mission of the two organizations.

“As the years have passed, the more I’ve realized bird hunting was my real love,” Madl said in making the pledge.

Fly contest begins.

Members of Team USA have arrived in Scotland for the start of the World Fly Fishing Championships, taking place through Friday. The seven-member competition team includes two Coloradans: Anthony Naranja of Grand Junction and Mike Sexton of Pagosa Springs.

Colorado Pheasants Forever will host an extended youth summer camp July 11-14, an event designed to connect kids entering grades 6 through 12 with a wide variety of outdoor programs. Called TUNE for “The Ultimate Nature Experience,” the camp features participation with Trout Unlimited, which on two days will provide volunteers to instruct in fishing and environmental skills. Representatives of the Colorado Bowhunters Association will provide a day of marksmanship instruction.

Pheasant Forever members will instruct in a wide variety of hunting and basic outdoor skills.

Commission confab.

Wildlife commissioners Tim Glenn and John Singletary will conduct a question-and-answer session at 6 p.m. on June 10 at the Quality Inn in Trinidad.

These regular meetings provide an opportunity for the public to discuss a variety of outdoor issues with the commissioners. Discussion centers on hunting, fishing and wildlife conservation.

Youth day.

The Cheyenne Mountain Chapter of Trout Unlimited will join with The Catamount Institute of Woodland Park in a parent and youth fishing day June 20.
