BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder County sheriff’s officials say an Israeli citizen who was shot by a deputy had allegedly assaulted two officers trying to arrest him.
Twenty-two-year-old Cosmo “Daniel” Moshe Grill was being held Saturday in lieu of a $15,000 bond on charges of second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. Jail records didn’t indicate whether he had an attorney.
Sheriff’s officials say Grill struggled with deputies who were trying to arrest him after witnesses said he threw a rock through his neighbor’s window Friday. Officers used a stun gun on him.
Authorities say Grill then grabbed an officer’s stun gun and pointed it at officers, prompting 31-year-old Deputy Lanie Delong to shoot Grill in the abdomen. Grill was treated at a hospital and released.
Authorities say Grill has been in the U.S. since August 2008 and lived in New York before Boulder.
Delong has been with the sheriff’s office for more than four years.
