MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — A man accused of fatally shooting a Wesleyan University student from Colorado last month has pleaded not guilty to murder and two new charges added by Connecticut authorities.

Stephen Morgan appeared in Middletown Superior Court on Tuesday. He is accused of the May 6 killing of Johanna Justin-Jinich of Timnath inside a bookstore cafe near the Middletown campus.

Morgan was initially charged with murder.

Prosecutors added charges including of intimidation based on bigotry or bias.

Middletown police say they found writings by Morgan threatening to kill Justin-Jinich and other Jewish students at Wesleyan.
