GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Grand Junction sales- and use-tax revenues are down.
The city’s financial operations manager Jodi Romero says the city collected $3.8 million in tax receipts in May for revenue generated in April, down 14 percent from $4.4 million in May 2008.
For the first five months of the year, sales- and use-tax revenues were down 12 percent, from $24.3 million in 2008 to $21.3 million this year.
The bulk of use tax revenue comes from the construction and energy industries, which have slowed this year. Romero says use tax revenue through May was down 37 percent from the same period last year.
The city has cut $6 million from its budget this year to help cover drops in revenue.
