A father and son found a body floating in Boulder Creek this afternoon, and now police are trying to determine how the victim died.
The father and son were walking on the Boulder Creek bike path shortly after 5 p.m. when they saw the body floating in the creek near Folsom Street, down a hill from the University of Colorado campus.
They called 911 and shouted for help. Two other passersby pulled the body from the water.
Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said police have preliminarily identified the victim, a man in his 50s. He was wearing sneakers, blue jeans and a shirt.
“So it doesn’t look like he’s dressed for any recreational activity in the water,” she said.
Huntley said investigators are scouring the bike path for clues, looking for things that might have belonged to him.
Boulder Creek’s streamflows were swelled slightly above their seasonal norms this afternoon and were running at about 230 cubic feet-per-second at 5:45 p.m., according to the Colorado Division of Water Resources. But Huntley said it appeared the body had been in the creek for some time before it was discovered.
Last week, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle warned residents to use caution around the creek, saying the creek’s current streamflows make swimming or wading dangerous.
