SEATTLE—Peter Omae, a Kenyan who lives in Mexico City, won the first Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon men’s race in 2 hours, 18 minutes and 17 seconds, 35 seconds ahead of Peter Gilmore.
The women’s marathon winner Saturday was Michele Suszek of Colorado, who beat Leah Thorvlison in a race with three lead changes in the final six miles. She finished first by 12 seconds in a time of 2:38.49.
A total of 25,000 runners signed up for the 26.2-mile race across Lake Washington, alongside the Puget Sound and beneath the Space Needle.
Marathon organizers said they hoped the race would pump $25 million into local restaurants and shops during the race weekend.
