LONGMONT, Colo.—The Boulder County coroner’s office says a 12-year-old boy thrown by a bull in a rodeo died after the left ventricle of his heart ruptured when the bull stomped on him.

Richard Wayde Hamar of Yuma died Sunday from injuries suffered while competing at the Longmont Elks Little Britches Rodeo for children ages 8 to 18. The Boulder County sheriff’s office says the bull stomped on they boy’s chest and stomach after throwing him to the ground.

The boy’s mother says her son loved riding bulls and that no one should be blamed for his death. Angie Hamar said Monday that her son was wearing a helmet and a vest during the competition.
