Two Colorado teens and two out-of-state travelers are dead after a head-on collision early Sunday morning on U.S. 287 near Wiley in southeastern Colorado. A third person remains in critical condition.
The teens — a male driver and female passenger — drifted across the center line in their Nissan minivan, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The Nissan struck a northbound Ford Focus, veered off the side of the road and burst into flames about 2:14 a.m. Both teens died at the scene.
Authorities do not suspect drugs or alcohol at this time, said patrol spokesman Sgt. John Hahn.
In the Ford, the female driver from Washington state was killed. Her two passengers — a woman from Oklahoma and a man from Washington state — were taken by ambulance to Prowers Medical Center. There, the second woman died.
The injured man was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
State patrol officers continue to investigate the crash and are withholding victims’ names until families are notified.
