A group that included NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora reached the summit of Washington’s Mount Rainier on Wednesday.
The team made it to the summit of the 14,411-foot volcano at 9:15 a.m. PDT, a spokesman for United Way of King County told The Associated Press. The climb was a charity fundraiser.
Goodell and Mora left Camp Muir after midnight in their summit attempt. Of the roughly 9,000 climbers who annually attempt to reach the peak, only about half succeed. Altitude sickness and weather are the biggest obstacles.
Goodell trained for months with a weighted pack up hills and 50 flights of stairs in and around New York. A cameraman for NFL Films filmed the ascent.
