A nonprofit human-resources organization was hired by the University of Northern Colorado to investigate years of sexual-misconduct allegations made against a theater professor and the way campus officials responded to the complaints.
Mountain States Employers Council is conducting the investigation surrounding UNC’s response to former and current students who came forward to say Vance Fulkerson engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct for nearly two decades.
“Our job is to do an impartial assessment of the facts — and those facts may turn out to be negative in perspective to the employer — and that is what our charge is,” said Chris Chrisbens, manager of MSEC’s workplace investigations.
MSEC conducts more than 100 investigations a year for companies. Many of the investigations are prompted by complaints of sexual harassment, theft, employee drug use and other allegations of misconduct.
Chrisbens said he does not know how long the UNC investigation will take.
“It’s very hard to predict with the number of witnesses and allegations and schedule of interviews,” Chrisbens said.
