Louisville, the small city northwest of Denver, has been named the best place to live by Money magazine.
The Colorado town beat out 99 other locales across the country, and the full list of 100 is published in the July 13 edition.
“We did a survey of our readers to say, ‘What’s the most important to you in finding a great place to live?’ ” Beth Fenner, Money’s assistant managing editor, said in an interview with 9News this morning. “This year, no surprise, overwhelmingly it’s the jobs and the economy situation.
“Louisville is amazing in that. Conoco-Phillips is building a huge facility there; there are a lot of employers in the area; it’s near Boulder, so that’s all great for them,” she said.
The magazine sought to focus on smaller towns this year.
“We wanted to deliberately do towns of less than 50,000 population,” Fenner said. “Because everybody knows about the New Yorks and Chicagos, you don’t really need someone to tell you what makes them good or bad. But these (smaller cities) there’s some discovery here for people.”
Louisville, which has a population just under 20,000, was cited by the magazine for how it’s handling the current tough economic times. The publication said the top reason for people to move there was its access to outdoor recreation, with its 30 miles of trails and close proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park.
