The Denver district attorney’s office announced Thursday it has cleared two police officers who shot and killed a man after he pointed a gun at them July 2.
In a 34-page report, the DA found that the officers, Michael Oestmann and Christopher Wilcox, were justified in using lethal force against Hector Esparza in the incident at his home at 4503 Fillmore St.
Esparza came out of a room and pointed his gun at Wilcox, the report said. Wilcox and Oestmann yelled at him to “drop the gun,” and when he did not, Wilcox fired four shots at him and Oestmann fired three.
