CHEYENNE, Wyo.—The Bureau of Land Management has recognized four oil and gas companies for their efforts to cut down on air pollution in southwest Wyoming.

The BLM says the award presented earlier this month recognizes the companies for reducing the impacts of energy development on public land.

EnCana, Ultra Petroleum, Shell Oil and Questar have extensive natural gas operations in Sublette County’s Jonah and Pinedale Anticline gas fields.

However, the drilling activity has contributed to elevated ozone levels in Sublette County in recent years.

The four major oil and gas developers have undertaken a number of measures to reduce emissions.

A representative of a Pinedale area citizens organization that wants to see the pace of development slowed says the efforts are welcome but air pollution is still a problem.
