Authorities reopened the swim beach at Aurora Reservoir at about 5 p.m. after high bacteria levels, reported Wednesday afternoon, had subsided.
Routine tests discovered elevated bacterial levels in the water in the an untreated body of water, and it’s not unusual for bacteria levels to fluctuate, according to Jenna Baker, spokesperson for Aurora Parks and Open Space.
Baker said the heavy rains experienced Monday night were probably at least partially responsible for the high bacteria count.
The beach was closed at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Heavy rains in recent weeks have caused temporary closures of beaches at other reservoirs in the metro area, including Chatfield and Cherry Creek reservoirs.
Officials said then that heavy-storm runoffs temporarily contaminated the water.
