Colorado lost two small-school legends last weekend in Tim Gribben and Larry Vibber.
Gribben, who won four Class A 6-man football titles at Idalia, died Sunday of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Gribben was 48.
After a 16 year stint at Burlington as a principal/superintendent and coach, Gribben moved north to Idalia and turned the Wolves into a blueprint for success on the small-school level. He coached his last game in 2006, a 69-6 victory over Eads in the state title game to cap an 11-0 season, and finished with a career record of 64-3 and The Denver Post’s coach of the year honors.
Services will be held in Burlington at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. A date has yet to be announced.
Vibber was a fixture in Fowler, dedicating 47 years of service to the school as a superintendent, athletic director and scoreboard operator.
Inducted into the Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame in 2002, Vibber died Saturday at age 76. Services have not been announced.
