BOULDER, Colo.—A man serving a 72-year prison sentence for rape says he needs more time to enter his plea in the 1993 death of a Longmont woman that prosecutors say is linked to him through DNA evidence.
Forty-eight-year-old Rudy Gaytan faces first-degree murder charges in the death of 30-year-old Tammera Tatum. Authorities say she was sexually assaulted and strangled in her Longmont apartment.
Gaytan has been serving a prison sentence at the Limon Correctional Facility after being convicted in 2007 of raping a 19-year-old woman in 1996. Prosecutors say Gaytan was also tied to that case through DNA evidence. His arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 31.
