DENVER—U.S. Sen. Mark Udall says he will ask Secretary of the Army nominee John McHugh what he plans to do to improve mental health care for soldiers.
Udall says he also plans to ask McHugh during his confirmation hearing Thursday before the Senate Armed Services Committee how the Army can change the stigma soldiers sometimes face when seeking mental health.
The Army has declared soldiers’ mental health a top priority.
Udall says he also wants to hear what McHugh has to say about allegations that 14 soldiers based at Fort Carson between 2005 and 2008 committed 11 slayings. A July 15 Army report found a possible link between intense combat faced while on deployment and those slayings.
