A 21-year-old woman identified as Victoria Perea was struck and killed as she crossed South Colorado Boulevard on Sunday night.

The accident occurred near the intersection of South Colorado and East Louisiana Avenue at about 9:30 p.m., said Sonny Jackson, spokesman for the Denver Police Department.

Jackson said that a motorist came over the crest of the hill and saw Perea in front of him crossing in the middle of the street. Jackson said the driver took evasive action but couldn’t avoid hitting Perea.

The driver pulled over and attempted to help. Because Perea was illegally crossing in the middle of the block and because he stopped, the driver wasn’t cited, said Jackson.

According to the Denver coroner’s office, Perea arrived at Denver Health Medical Center at 9:50 p.m. Sunday and was pronounced dead seven minutes later.

The coroner said the cause of death was blunt-force injuries.
