A 57-year-old Littleton man was killed this afternoon at a dirt bike track southeast of Berthoud, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s office, the second fatality at the track in a week.
The man’s name was not immediately available from the Weld County Coroner’s Office.
There were no witnesses to the crash at the Valley Dirt Riders Motocross track just before 3 p.m., but the rider who found him told authorities the wheels of the man’s wrecked bike were still spinning when the body was discovered, said Deputy Shane Scofield, a spokesman for the Weld County Sheriff’s office.
The man apparently wrecked at the end of a jump and was dead when he was found, Scofield said. He was wearing a helmet.
The Greeley Tribune reported that Anthony Hayes, 25, of Evans was badly injured in an accident at the track on July 25 and died from his injuries Monday.
The 160-acre track along Interstate 25 charges riders $15 apiece to practice and requires helmets, but requires riders to sign a waiver, which states an ambulance or first aid will not be available during practice sessions.
