Victoria Beckham was on hand in Denver on Friday for the first round of “American Idol” auditions in the post-Paula Abdul era. The former Spice Girl arrived at the Grand Hyatt downtown, where call-back auditions were being held.
Fox, which airs the show, said Beckham and Katy Perry would be guest judges in Abdul’s place. But it wasn’t clear whether Beckham did any judging Friday, and “Idol” spokeswoman Alex Gillespie declined to say what her role was. Perry was nowhere to be seen.
Judge Kara DioGuardi arrived wearing a black dress, telling KDVR-Channel 31 that she was mourning Abdul’s absence. Host Ryan Seacrest chatted with fans. When judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell arrived, the crowd went wild. A fan shouted to Cowell, “I love how mean you are.”
