SAN FRANCISCO — Dodgers all-star pitcher Chad Billingsley will miss his scheduled start against the Giants on Wednesday because of a strained left hamstring.
Billingsley left his last start against Atlanta on Friday after straining his hamstring on a single. He threw on the side before Monday’s series opener against the Giants and still felt tightness, so the Dodgers decided to skip his start.
Manager Joe Torre said he doesn’t believe Billingsley will need to go on the disabled list. The Dodgers haven’t decided on a starter for Wednesday’s game against Tim Lincecum.
Martinez to start against Cubs
PHILADELPHIA — Pedro Martinez will make his return to the majors Wednesday when he starts for Philadelphia against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
To make room for Martinez in the rotation, the Phillies are sending 46- year-old left-hander Jamie Moyer to the bullpen. Moyer leads the staff in wins with a 10-9 record, but his 5.47 ERA is third-worst in the majors.
