With “Designing Women of Postwar Britain,” the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center broke from is typical offerings and took an unusual and fascinating look at three top textile designers from the latter half of the 20th century.

The vast show, which ended Jan. 25, featured 133 selections and an array of supporting materials from the comprehensive collection of Jill A. Wiltse and H. Kirk Brown III of Denver.

Though not exactly a doorbuster, the show has gained attention in the field, with two museums signed on to present a smaller, touring version and others expressing interest. Two shows are is set for next year: May 14-Sept. 12 at the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C., and Oct. 12 -Dec. 17 at the Kresge Art Museum at Michigan State University.

“I am so very pleased that this exhibit of such a phenomenal collection will be enjoyed by a wide audience,” said curator Tariana Navas-Nieves via e-mail. “The opportunity for it to travel abroad is being explored, and it would certainly be fantastic if it is presented in the United Kingdom.” Kyle MacMillan
