A Flight for Life pilot and paramedic are the newest inductees into the Longs Peak Rescue Awards Hall of Fame, the Longs Peak Summit Club said today.

Pat Mahany and Kevin Kelble were aboard the same helicopter during a rescue amid lightning, hail and high winds in August 2006.

Mahany made a precise landing at Chasm Lake to rescue an injured hiker, between two bands of violent weather, while Kelble worked with National Park Service rescuers to get the hiker safely aboard and attend to his injuries.

Mahany and Kelble will recount the harrowing rescue during their induction banquet at the Aspen Lodge in Estes Park on Aug. 29.

Tickets for the dinner are $35 and available by calling 970-586-8133. For those who want to watch the awards ceremony but not have dinner, the cost is $5 each.
