A driver who went the wrong way on Interstate 25 in Northglenn and died in the resulting 10-vehicle crash has been identified by police.

David S. Ulwelling, 48, of Broomfield died in the accident Monday night, Northglenn police said Tuesday.

Ulwelling was driving south in the northbound lanes about 7:10 p.m.

Witnesses told investigators that Ulwelling, driving a Jeep Liberty, got onto the highway using the northbound RTD bus off-ramp that goes under I-25 near 117th Avenue.

The Liberty hit a Ford F-150 pickup that was pulling a trailer north of 104th Avenue, and several other vehicles got caught up in the collision, police said.

Three people injured have been released from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries, police said.

Police are investigating the fatal crash and ask witnesses to call 303-450-8893.

Toxicology reports on Ulwelling should be complete in about 10 to 14 days, police said.
