Getting your player ready...

FORT COLLINS — Colorado State defensive end Eugene Daniels was taken to the hospital Thursday night more than an hour after practice ended because of heat-related issues.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound sophomore from Fort Hood, Texas, was expected to be released later in the evening, the school said in a release.

The Rams had a closed practice at Hughes Stadium that ended just after 4 p.m. then returned to campus. The player was in the training room when the ambulance was called at about 5:30.

According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, just before 6 p.m. paramedics loaded the player, shirtless but still wearing his football pants, into an ambulance.

“We take these matters very seriously at Colorado State,” coach Steve Fairchild said. “Terry DeZeeuw and our training staff were with Eugene from the very beginning and sent a staff member with him to the hospital. We’re all grateful that Eugene is OK.”
