Because of budget constraints, the Denver City Council this week consolidated positions and in the process has laid off three front-office workers.
The move will help close a $120 million budget deficit the city’s general fund faces over the next 17 months.
The work had been spread across 2.25 full-time positions. The work now will be consolidated into one full-time position, said Lauri Dannemiller, the executive staff director for the council. She said the employees laid off can reapply for that job. One laid-off worker is eligible for retirement, she added.
In addition, another employee has gone to part-time status.
The move will save $100,000 annually, Dannemiller said.
