Getting your player ready...

Broomfield’s Steve Ziegler, a junior on the Stanford men’s golf team, was among 60 players to qualify for today’s start of match play at the U.S. Amateur in Oklahoma. His 2-over-par 72 on the Southern Hills Country Club course in Tulsa, Okla., moved him up into a tie for 20th place at 5-over 145, five strokes behind the leader.

Colorado senior Justin Bardgett, who tied for 61st at 8-over 148, will be part of a 27-player playoff today for four remaining match-play spots. Tom Whitney of the Air Force Academy and Aurora’s Gunner Wiebe fell out of contention on the second day and missed the cut.

Tim Jackson shot a second-round 72 to leave him at even par and earn medalist honors. The 50-year-old became the oldest player in the history of the tournament to lead after stroke play.

Jackson, a two-time USGA Mid-Amateur champion and the 36-hole leader at this year’s U.S. Senior Open, played the second day at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow, Okla., while being regularly outdriven by more than 30 yards by his younger opponents.

The Big 12 Conference named Colorado soccer goalkeeper Kara Linder its defensive player of the week after she recorded a shutout in the Buffs’ 1-0 upset of No. 11-ranked Oklahoma State on Saturday. It was Linder’s seventh career shutout.
